Look at Mary Magdalene; she was so in love with Jesus. She went early in the morning to see him.

NOBEL PEACE PRIZE

ACCEPTANCE SPEECH

11 December, 1979

As we have gathered here together to thank God for the Nobel Peace Prize I think it will be beautiful that we pray the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi which always surprises me very much. We pray this prayer every day after Holy Communion, because it is very fitting for each one of us, and I always wonder that 400-500 years ago when St. Francis of Assisi composed this prayer, they had the same difficulties that we have today, as we compose this prayer that fits very nicely for us also. I think some of you already have got it – so we will pray together.

Mother Teresa Institute (MTI)

Mother Teresa Institute (MTI)  is an outgrowth of the work and activities of The Mother Teresa Center, a non-profit organization established and directed by the religious family founded by Mother Teresa of Calcutta, the Missionaries of Charity (for more information please visit www.motherteresa.org).

While the Center’s aim is to serve as a centralized and authoritative source of information on St. Teresa of Calcutta (better known throughout the world simply as Mother Teresa), to facilitate the spread of authentic devotion to her, and to safeguard her words and image from misuse or abuse, the Mother Teresa Institute (MTI) is directed towards a more profound study of Mother Teresa’s life, work, spirituality and message.

The aim of the MTI is to preserve, protect, promote, and develop the authentic legacy of Saint Teresa of Calcutta to the Church and to the world. The MTI will provide resources to students, scholars and researchers who are interested in Mother Teresa, her life, charism and message, giving them the opportunity to study in depth one of the great saints of modern times and a humanitarian figure who made an enormous difference to the welfare of the poorest of the poor and had broad influence in the Church and the world.

Bishop Robert Barron, in a Cardinal Foley Lecture at St. Charles Seminary in Philadelphia (29 January 2018), spoke of the importance of calling attention to the saints. “If you want to show the fullness of [the Catholic Faith], show the heroes. Show those who lived it, all the way. To me the saints have always had this compelling power. Von Balthasar said that the only real theologians are the saints. … The only ones who speak truthfully about God are those who live it, dramatically. Narrate the lives of the saints. Hold up the saints, the heroes of the faith. Show people what being a Christian looks like. And do so concretely,” that is, show particular examples.

The MTI, located in Washington, DC, across from the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
